Atlanta, GA – January 22nd, 2019
The AHR (Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration) exposition is held alongside the ASHRAE Winter Conference. The conference is a bi-annual engineering event at which the work of ASHRAE is done. ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers) is responsible for writing and updating the standards around construction, safety, and energy efficiency within the industry. The ASHRAE Innovation Award is a highly-coveted engineering design award given in ten categories for design excellence, innovation, and market impact. This year Arctic won finalist in two categories, cooling and heating. “We are very pleased to have been recognized from among hundreds of companies that had entered,” said Changiz Tolouee, Arctic Chiller Group’s Vice President of Engineering.
The products that won were the SuperMod all variable speed chiller with the option for heat recovery in the heating category and the ACA air-cooled and ACW water-cooled packaged magnetic bearing chillers with the Arctic Boost option in the cooling category. This option gives an already industry-leading, energy-efficient, chiller the capability to run in an extended range of conditions that were unachievable before. “The extended range makes these chillers particularly attractive to applications like data centers and chilled beams as well as any application in low ambient areas of the world,” said Patrick Legare, Arctic Chiller Group Senior Vice President. The PolyTherm, which is the new 6-pipe, modular, simultaneous chiller/heater design featuring three independent water loops and heat exchangers, was also warmly received at the show.
“We were very happy with the traffic quantity and quality throughout the show,” said Murray Weightman, Arctic Chiller Group Vice President of Sales. Arctic also uses the show to recognize their representatives at a dinner gathering before the show starts. “We had a tremendous growth year and our network of top tier representatives were the reason. This awards dinner is our way of saying ‘Thank You’,” said Angelo Troiano, Arctic Chiller Group President and CEO.
Charlotte, NC – October 22nd, 2018
W.E.E.C. (World Energy and Engineering Congress) was held at the Charlotte Convention Center in downtown Charlotte, NC this year. Arctic had great traffic and a lot of interest in the new models of chillers being shown in the booth. The air-cooled SuperMod all variable speed modular chiller and the water-cooled PolyTherm (a new six-pipe modular chiller/heater) were both on display. Arctic was asked to speak at one of the technical sessions for Professional Development Credits, important to Professional Engineers. Arctic chaired the session “Modern Modular Chiller Applications and Compressor Options,” delivered by Senior VP of Sales and Marketing, Mark Rogan.
The Innovation Awards recognize the industry’s most inventive products, systems and technologies. Each year, products in 10 different categories are recognized for being some of the HVACR industry’s most innovative products, systems and technologies.
Arctic Chiller Group is thrilled to be recognized as finalists in two categories: Cooling, with Arctic Cool (ACA and ACW Magnetic Bearing Chillers with Arctic Boost Option); and Heating, with ArctiChill (SuperMod all variable speed modular chiller platform).
This is the first year that Arctic Chiller Group has entered the competition.

We are pleased to announce that Changiz Tolouee, PhD, has joined Arctic Chiller Group as the Vice President of Engineering according to President and CEO Angelo Troiano. With over 25 years of equipment design experience in the HVAC&R industry, Changiz will help drive new products to take Arctic to the next level of cutting edge design said Troiano.
Changiz also played an important role in the commercialization process of the Turbocor compressor and helped deliver the product from the R&D stage to commercial stage during his many years with Turbocor.
Patrick Légaré, Vice President and Director of Engineering, announced today that the Company recently completed extremely successful testing of one of the largest air-cooled chillers built utilizing Danfoss Turbocor® magnetic bearing technology.
“While Arctic builds air-cooled chillers up to 450 tons, this 300-ton unit is the largest air-cooled chiller to date to be tested under the AHRI certification program. We are extremely pleased to announce that this air-cooled chiller was verified by AHRI to run at 0.925KW/Ton at full load,” said Légaré.
Traditional air-cooled chillers using screw or scroll compressor technology have a typical full load range of 1.20 to 1.25 KW/Ton range.
“The approximately 25% improvement provided by the ArcticCool chiller represents a substantial level of energy preservation and will undoubtedly be viewed as an industry game-changer,” confirmed Mark Rogan, Vice President, Sales and Marketing.
Légaré, who monitored the testing, added that the part load efficiencies, also verified in the testing, were staggering, with the entire system starting to approach the efficiencies of a water-cooled chiller plant.
“These efficiencies, the value of excluding condenser side equipment and water system maintenance coupled with the extremely low sound levels experienced with the magnetic bearing technology have become the fundamental reasons these magnetic bearing compressor air-cooled chillers are gaining in popularity,” he said.
